AN ACT TO CREATE THE TALLAHATCHIE COUNTY CHILDREN'S SERVICES COMMISSION; TO PRESCRIBE THE MEMBERSHIP OF THE COMMISSION; TO PROVIDE FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF A PLAN BY THE COMMISSION; TO AUTHORIZE THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF TALLAHATCHIE COUNTY, MISSISSIPPI, TO CONTRIBUTE FUNDS TO THE COMMISSION; TO PROVIDE FOR THE EXPENDITURE OF SUCH FUNDS; TO AUTHORIZE THE ACCEPTANCE OF GRANTS AND OTHER ASSISTANCE; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:
SECTION 1. (1) The Board of Supervisors of Tallahatchie County, Mississippi, is authorized to create the Tallahatchie County Children's Services Commission (commission). The commission shall consist of the following four (4) members: the Superintendent of the East Tallahatchie Consolidated School District, or his designee; the Superintendent of the West Tallahatchie Consolidated School District, or his designee; the Youth Court Referee of Tallahatchie County, or his designee; and the Attendance Counselor for Tallahatchie County, or his designee.
(2) The commission is authorized to develop an annual plan for Tallahatchie County in regard to preventing delinquency of the youth of Tallahatchie County and promoting job training and skills and good citizenship training for the youth of Tallahatchie County.
(3) The Board of Supervisors of Tallahatchie County, Mississippi, is authorized, in its discretion, to contribute out of any available funds of the county to the commission for their expenditure and for the purposes enumerated in this act an amount not to exceed Ten Thousand Dollars ($10,000.00) in any calendar year.
(4) The commission is authorized to expend the funds authorized in subsection (3) to qualified 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporations whose tax exemption status is in good standing, which may include, but not be limited to Gain, Incorporated, Tallahatchie Youth Development Consortium, Incorporated and such other nonprofit public or private entities which the commission determines to be in the best interest of the children of Tallahatchie County.
(5) The commission is authorized to apply for and accept any grants or other assistance that may be available that will serve the purposes of the commission.
SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage.
